Jack and Jill Competition

This year, in addition to the Brazilian Zouk US Open, LA Zouk Festival will offer the Jack and Jill competition in partnership with the Brazilian Zouk Dance Council.

Jack & Jill competitions are designed to highlight skills in social Brazilian Zouk dancing and the ability to dance well with a variety of partners. Competitors enter as individuals, are randomly assigned partners and dance to music selected by LA Zouk Festival.

Competitor Information

LA Zouk Festival is a Brazilian Zouk Dance Council (“BZDC”) Registry Event. As such, points are awarded to the winners and place getters (and possibly finalists) of our Jack & Jill Competitions. The LA Zouk Festival will record and track every competitor and these points will be used to identify the category a person should compete in. There must be a minimum of five couples per category for points to be recorded.Points will be recorded and tracked as follows:

The guidelines for each category are set out on this page. If you want to enter a category for which you do not meet the entry requirements stated or want to change categories, you may submit a request by sending us an email with a brief explanation of the reason(s) for your request.

Divisions

Novice Category A person should compete in Novice if they have never competed in Brazilian Zouk Jack & Jill competitions before or have not yet obtained an Intermediate level.

Intermediate Category A person should request to compete in Intermediate if they have obtained an Intermediate level or are invited by the event organizers due to their extensive dance experience in Brazilian Zouk.

Advanced Category A person should request to compete in Advanced if they have obtained an Advanced level or are invited by the even organizers due to their extensive experience in Brazilian Zouk.

Time/Date Heats – The first heat will take place on Saturday, May 2, during lunchtime. Finals – The finals will take place during the lunch break on Sunday, May 3 during lunchtime.

Event Entry Requirements To be eligible to compete you must have already purchased an LA Zouk Festival FULL Pass or PERFORMER Pass. The last day to register will be April 30, 2019. Registration fees are the same for all divisions: $20 up until Feb 29, $25 between Feb 30 and March 31, and $30 after that for beginners and $25 for intermediates.
